As the FIFA World Cup 2026 got under way on Friday, former Bangladesh football star Kaiser Hamid reflected on the loss of his daughter, actress and content creator Karina Kaiser, sharing an emotional tribute on social media.
Rather than celebrating the opening of football’s biggest tournament, Kaiser Hamid said he was experiencing a profound sense of grief as he remembered the daughter with whom he had shared countless sporting moments.
In a Facebook post, he wrote: “Karina, I will truly miss you very much during this World Cup.”
He recalled the many occasions when they watched football, cricket and other sporting events together, describing those memories as a source of both comfort and sorrow.
“Karina Mamoni, I will never be able to watch games with you again. Whenever I remember our moments watching football, cricket and many other sports together, my heart aches. I will miss you every moment while watching the games,” he wrote.
Kaiser Hamid said that even an occasion as festive as the World Cup had become a symbol of absence and loss because the person with whom he shared the excitement and joy of every match was no longer beside him.
Despite the grief, he expressed his enduring love for his daughter, saying that Karina would always remain with him.
Karina Kaiser recently died following complications related to a liver condition. Since her passing, Kaiser Hamid has regularly shared tributes on social media, posting childhood photographs and recalling memorable moments from her life.
Meanwhile, OTT platform Chorki has announced a special initiative to honour Karina’s memory. As part of the platform’s fifth anniversary celebrations, she will receive a special tribute at the Chorki Carnival outside the competition categories.
Chorki Chief Executive Officer Redoan Rony said Karina’s body of work had placed her beyond the limits of competition and that the initiative was intended to recognise her contribution.
Karina had also been nominated at the ongoing Chorki Awards. However, organisers decided to honour her separately and commemorate her body of work rather than include her in the competitive categories.
