The body of content creator and actor Kaarina Kaisar, who died in Chennai, India while receiving treatment for severe liver complications, is expected to arrive in Dhaka this afternoon.
According to her father, former national footballer Kaisar Hamid, the flight carrying her body from Chennai is scheduled to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport between 4:30 pm and 5:00 pm on Sunday.
Following her arrival, the body will be taken to Banani DOHS, where the first funeral prayer will be held after Maghrib prayers at the area’s central mosque. A second funeral prayer is planned before Isha prayers at Banani Darbar Sharif Mosque.
Family members said the final funeral prayer will take place after Zuhr prayers on Monday before she is buried in Abdullahpur village in Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj. She will be laid to rest beside land donated by her mother for a mosque.
A group of students and activists associated with the July movement have also proposed holding a funeral prayer at the Central Shaheed Minar on Monday morning. However, Kaisar Hamid said no decision had yet been taken regarding the request.
Kaarina died on Friday while undergoing treatment at Christian Medical College Hospital in Chennai. She had been flown to India by air ambulance earlier this week for advanced treatment after her condition worsened in Dhaka.
Speaking about her final moments, Kaisar Hamid said her blood pressure dropped critically while doctors were administering antibiotics to treat lung complications.
“Doctors tried extensively, but they could not save her,” he said.
According to family sources, Kaarina initially developed a fever before infections were detected. She later suffered liver failure linked to complications from hepatitis A and E. As her condition deteriorated, she was moved to intensive care and placed on life support.
After arriving in Chennai, doctors prioritised treatment for her lungs while preparations for a liver transplant were underway.
Born on November 11, 1994, Kaarina was 33. She is survived by her parents and two brothers. Celebrated chess player Rani Hamid was her grandmother.
Kaarina first rose to prominence as a digital content creator before moving into acting and screenwriting. She gained popularity among younger audiences through her energetic online presence and relatable content. Her notable works included ‘Internship’ and ‘36-24-36’.
News of her death prompted an outpouring of grief on social media, with colleagues, actors, filmmakers and fans remembering her for her warmth, humour and vibrant personality.
