After years without a functioning cinema hall, Comilla is set to see the return of the big screen this Eid-ul-Fitr. K-Screen Cineplex will open its doors on the eighth floor of Gomti Shopping Centre in the Cantonment Board area, marking a significant moment for local film enthusiasts.
The cineplex is hoping to launch with Shakib Khan’s upcoming Eid release, ‘Prince: Once Upon a Time in Dhaka’. Alam believes opening with a film starring the country’s leading box-office figure would make the occasion even more special. “Eid is synonymous with major releases, big stars and packed halls. Beginning our journey with a Shakib Khan film would be a memorable start for Comilla’s audiences,” he added.
The new venue will feature two state-of-the-art auditoriums with seating capacities of 200 and 250. Equipped with DCP projection technology and a modern 8:1 sound system, the cineplex aims to deliver an international-standard viewing experience. A food court will also be available for moviegoers. The project, developed at a reported cost of approximately Tk5.5 crore, is intended to provide a contemporary and comfortable entertainment space for the city.
Entrepreneur and producer leader Khorshed Alam, who is behind the initiative, said the goal was to meet evolving audience expectations. “Viewers today want clean, well-maintained and technologically advanced halls. From my experience in production and cinema management over the past two decades, I understand that environment matters just as much as the film itself,” he said.
Ticket prices are expected to align with rates charged by other cineplexes across the country, with a stated emphasis on screening domestic productions.
