The death of Afra Ibnat Khan Iqra, wife of actor Zaher Alvi, has prompted widespread reactions across the entertainment industry. Artists and public figures have taken to social media to share their views, including Aynabaji actress Masuma Rahman Nabila, whose recent Facebook post has drawn mixed responses.
In her statement, Nabila described suicide as “an extremely selfish act”, arguing that personal suffering should not outweigh the pain left behind for parents and children. She suggested that choosing to end one’s life while leaving a child to face an uncertain future reflects a failure of responsibility.
The actress also emphasised that accountability extends beyond on-screen portrayals. “It is not enough to be heroic in fiction; one must also take responsibility in real life,” she wrote.
Expressing concern for the couple’s child, Nabila offered prayers for the youngster’s wellbeing and strength for the grieving family. She further reflected that life, though often harsh and painful, carries its own beauty and meaning. According to her, enduring hardship with dignity is ultimately more powerful than surrendering to despair.
Her comments have since generated debate online, with some supporting her stance while others questioned the framing of such a sensitive issue.
