Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC has launched a nationwide campaign to popularise Bangla QR, aiming to encourage digital payments across the country, the bank said in a press release. Under the campaign, 50 customers and 50 merchants who make or receive payments through Islami Bank’s Bangla QR service stand to win smartphones, with the drive running from 23 August to 30 September 2026.
Mohammad Zahir Hossain, chairman of the bank, inaugurated the campaign on Thursday, 20 August 2026, while Acting Managing Director Mohammad Altaf Hossain chaired the event. Additional Managing Director Mohammad Jamal Uddin Majumder attended as a special guest, and Additional Managing Director Dr M Kamal Uddin Jasim delivered the welcome speech.
Executive Vice President Mohammad Majnuzzaman spoke on Bangla QR and QR-based secured statements during the programme. Deputy Managing Directors Mohammad Mahbub Alam, Mahmudur Rahman, Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Muhammad Saeed Ullah and Mohammad Maksudur Rahman, along with senior executives of the bank, were also present. Zone heads, branch managers and sub-branch in-charges joined the event through the Zoom platform.
Speaking as chief guest, Zahir Hossain said Bangla QR is a new addition to Bangladesh Bank’s digital payment system and represents an important initiative to make digital transactions easier, safer and accessible to all. He said Islami Bank has always worked to expand technology-based financial services, bring customers and marginalised communities under banking coverage, and ensure that expatriates can send remittances more quickly, easily and securely.
He said expanding the use of Bangla QR would enable people in remote areas and small businesses to access digital transaction facilities more easily, broadening financial inclusion and playing an important role in building a modern, cashless and Smart Bangladesh. He urged people to view Bangla QR not merely as a technology-based service but as a key foundation for financial inclusion, the digital economy and increasing the economic participation of marginal communities.
In his presidential speech, Altaf Hossain said Islami Bank has been continuously working to expand technology-driven and customer-friendly banking services. He said the bank has taken initiatives to bring more merchants, including small and medium businesses and people in remote and marginalised areas, under Bangla QR coverage by utilising its extensive network of branches, sub-branches and agent banking outlets. He called on officials and employees across all zones, branches, sub-branches and relevant departments, as well as merchants and customers, to ensure active participation in promoting the use of Bangla QR.
