Kamal Ahmed, a journalist with more than three decades of experience, has joined The Daily Star as consulting editor.
Kamal led the Media Reform Commission under the interim government of Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, delivering a comprehensive reform agenda within five months. He earlier held senior editorial roles at the BBC World Service in London, including editor of the Bengali Service, and worked with Prothom Alo and The Financial Express in Bangladesh.
The Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam said the appointment strengthens the paper’s mission of independent and professional journalism.
He is widely regarded for his investigative reporting, newsroom leadership, and contributions to media policy reform. Colleagues note that his return to The Daily Star marks both a continuation of his long association with the paper and an opportunity to mentor a new generation of journalists committed to ethical and accountable media.
