Jaya Ahsan has long been more than just a celebrated performer for audiences in Bangladesh and West Bengal.
Over the years, she has emerged as a commanding force in contemporary Bengali cinema. For which, she has earned acclaim for her portrayals of complex, era-defining characters.
Following a prolific year marked by films such as Taandob, Utsob, Putul Nacher Itikotha, Fereshte, Jaya Ar Sharmin and Dear Ma, the actress opens the new year with yet another demanding role in OCD.
Director Sourav Ghoshal brings OCD to theatres across West Bengal on February 6. The team unveiled the trailer on Sunday, quickly sparking widespread attention on social media. Sharing the trailer, Jaya offered a cryptic glimpse into the narrative.
“When an obsession with cleanliness turns into a blueprint for perfect revenge,” she wrote, sharing the trailer.
The trailer makes it clear that OCD delves deep into the long-term psychological impact of child abuse. The film examines how traumatic childhood experiences can silently shape an individual’s life, regardless of gender.
It further reveals how suppressed memories of abuse can drive a person towards vengeance or criminal behaviour. Each frame of the trailer reflects a growing sense of dread, underlining the devastating consequences of unaddressed trauma.
In the film, Jaya Ahsan plays Shweta, a medical professional whose present is haunted by the grey shadows of her past. The darkness buried deep within her psyche relentlessly follows her, threatening the stability of her carefully constructed life. When one of her patients uncovers secrets from her past, a chain of unsettling events unfolds. Shweta’s growing resentment towards those around her, especially those who oppose her, leads the story towards an ominous question: what ultimately becomes of her? The answer, the makers promise, lies within OCD.
Speaking earlier to Indian media, director Sourav Ghoshal described OCD as a psychological drama rather than a conventional thriller. He said the film also serves as a form of protest, inspired by countless children who suffered abuse but remained silent due to fear, mistrust or family complicity, allowing perpetrators to escape justice while victims carried lifelong trauma.
After beginning production in 2021 and premiering at the Kolkata International Film Festival in 2022, OCD toured several international festivals and now moves toward its theatrical release.
OCD marks the second collaboration between Jaya Ahsan and Sourav Ghoshal, following their earlier work in Bhootpori. Industry insiders believe this latest project marks a deeper and more intense level in their actor-director partnership.
The film also stars Kaushik Sen, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Anasuya Majumdar and Koneenica Banerjee in key roles.
