Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has stated that Japan regards Bangladesh as an important development partner and is keen on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the future.
Speaking to journalists at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after returning from a week-long visit to Japan, Shafiqur Rahman shared that discussions had been held with officials from Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and various other organisations.
According to Shafiqur Rahman, the talks primarily focused on investment, infrastructure development, educational exchange, skill development, disaster management, and broader cooperation in Bangladesh’s development sector.
Both sides, he said, emphasised the importance of transparency and accountability in the implementation of development projects. Discussions also covered cooperation in cancer treatment, rural development, and climate change mitigation.
During his visit, Shafiqur Rahman also inquired about the individuals injured during the July movement, who are currently receiving treatment in Thailand. He urged the government to ensure they receive adequate treatment, rehabilitation, and psychological support.
Expressing concern over the country’s law and order situation, the Jamaat leader called on the government to take effective measures to curb crime and ensure public safety. He also urged authorities to closely monitor the market situation and implement necessary actions to protect consumers.
A number of Jamaat leaders and activists welcomed Shafiqur Rahman at the airport upon his return to Dhaka.
Shafiqur Rahman had left Dhaka for Japan on 2 May, accompanied by Saiful Alam Khan Milon, a member of the party’s Central Executive Council, and Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman, the Jamaat Ameer’s adviser on foreign affairs.
