Nearly two decades after Jannat became a defining romance-crime drama of the 2000s, fans may have another reason to revisit the franchise.
According to News 18, producer Vishesh Bhatt has confirmed that Jannat 3 is being considered, with work on the script already underway.
The update comes amid the success of Awarapan 2, which brought Emraan Hashmi back as Shivam Pandit nearly 19 years after the original film.
Speaking to Zoom, Vishesh Bhatt revealed that the team is now exploring a third instalment of the Jannat franchise.
“Awarapan ke baad mein, I am definitely looking into Jannat 3,” he said when asked about the possibility of another sequel.
Asked whether the script had already been finalised, the producer clarified that the writing process is still underway.
“Vahi cheez pe kaam chal raha hai,” he said.
Vishesh also addressed speculation that Awarapan 2 was made simply to capitalise on the popularity of the original.
He said the film was not a cash-grab project and claimed that distributors initially showed little interest in acquiring it.
“Nobody in the market came to buy the film. We put our own money into it. Yes, the market did wake up when the film was ready,” he said.
Released on 16 May 2008, Jannat starred Emraan Hashmi and Sonal Chauhan and was directed by Kunal Deshmukh.
Produced by Mukesh Bhatt, the film followed Arjun Dixit, a young man drawn towards gambling and the promise of quick money.
Arjun’s ambition takes him from small-time gambling to match-fixing and eventually into the world of an underworld don.
His relationship with Zoya, however, forces him to confront the consequences of his choices.
The film’s emotional story, coupled with its memorable soundtrack, turned Jannat into one of Emraan Hashmi’s most recognisable films.
Songs such as Zara Sa, Haan Tu Hain, Judaai and Lambi Judai became hugely popular and remain closely associated with the film’s nostalgic appeal.
The franchise continued with Jannat 2 in 2012, with Emraan returning in the lead alongside Randeep Hooda and Esha Gupta.
While details about Jannat 3 remain under wraps, Vishesh’s latest comments suggest that the franchise could be making another comeback.
Whether Emraan Hashmi will return as Arjun Dixit, however, remains to be seen.
