Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Tuesday announced a month-long series of programmes to mark the second anniversary of the July Mass Uprising.

Party Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar unveiled the schedule at a press conference held at the Jatiya Press Club in the capital.

He said the party will hold meetings with the families of those killed, injured and permanently disabled during the July Uprising in Dhaka from 2 July to 9, followed by nationwide programmes from 18 July to 31.

Outlining the August programmes, Parwar said processions will be brought out in metropolitan cities, districts and upazilas across the country on 1 August.

He further said labour organisations affiliated with the party will organise special programmes from 2 August to 4.

On 5 August, marking July Mass Uprising Day, the 11-party alliance will stage rallies and processions in the capital, as well as in district and upazila headquarters nationwide.

He also said Jamaat leaders and activists will participate in programmes organised by the party’s women’s wing, student organisations and various forums of the “July fighters”.

Alongside the announcement, Jamaat placed three demands: speedy trial of those responsible for the July killings and crimes against humanity, justice for the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi, and the convening of a Reform Council session to implement the July Charter and reflect the public mandate expressed through a referendum.
