The International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Yunnan University (YNU) of China to strengthen academic cooperation and research collaboration.

The agreement was signed on Tuesday following a bilateral meeting between the two institutions.

Abdur Rab, Vice-Chancellor of IUBAT, and Ma Wenhui, President of Yunnan University, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions.

The partnership aims to expand cooperation in higher education through student and faculty exchange, joint research initiatives and innovation.

A key focus of the collaboration is advancing Perennial Rice Research. The agreement also includes plans to establish a dedicated research centre at IUBAT, which is expected to contribute to sustainable agricultural development.

The distinguished delegation from Yunnan University included Ma Wenhui, President; Wu Yun, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange; Hu Jianfeng, Secretary-General of the Alumni Association; Zhang Shilai, Deputy Director of the Office of Science and Technology Division; Luo Weiwei, Vice Dean of the Institute of International Relations; Liu Wenli, Chinese Language Lecturer at the Confucius Institute at North South University; and Yang Hui, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Dhaka.

The IUBAT delegation was led by Abdur Rab, Vice Chancellor, and included Selina Nargis, Treasurer and Director Administration; Brigadier General Md Zahid Hossain (Retd), Controller of Examinations; Md Momtazur Rahman, Registrar; Mozaffar A Chowdhury, Dean, IBS. Ismail Hossain, Chairman, College of Agricultural Sciences; Mohammad Rezaul Karim, Coordinator, College of Agricultural Sciences; Farjana Sultana, Professor, College of Agricultural Sciences; Md Sadekul Islam, Director, International Program Office; Sajal Saha, Director, Miyan Research Institute; and Md Alamin Sikder Shihab, Director, Branding and Public Relations Office.

As part of the agreement, the IUBAT College of Agricultural Sciences has also established a research collaboration on Perennial Rice with the Agricultural Department of Yunnan University.

The MoU marks a step forward in strengthening global academic partnerships and reflects IUBAT’s focus on research, innovation and international collaboration in higher education.
