Israeli aerial attacks on southern and eastern Lebanon have killed at least six people and wounded three others on Wednesday, according to the Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA).
The strikes represent a violation of the ceasefire brokered by the United States last month.
In eastern Lebanon, an air strike targeting the western Bekaa town of Zellaya resulted in four deaths and three injuries.
NNA reported that Ali Qassem Ahmad, the head of the Zellaya municipal council, was killed alongside three members of his family when their home was struck.
In the south, two people were killed during artillery shelling in the village of Mayfadoun. The Israeli military reportedly utilised fighter jets and drones in its operations across southern Lebanon, including the Tyre district.
In response, the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah claimed responsibility for an attack on a gathering of Israeli soldiers.
Following the strikes, Israel issued forced displacement orders for 12 villages in southern Lebanon, warning residents to stay at least one kilometre away from their homes.
The majority of the affected villages are located north of the Litani River, an area not currently under Israeli military occupation.
Israel asserted that these measures were a response to ceasefire violations by Hezbollah, though no credible evidence was provided to support the claim.
The Israeli military has continued to broaden its operations, with the latest displacement orders extending to western parts of the Bekaa Valley for the first time since the truce commenced on 17 April.
Renewed hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah began on 2 March after the Iran-backed group launched rockets into Israel. This followed the initiation of a war against Iran by the United States and Israel.
Since that time, Israeli attacks in Lebanon have claimed approximately 2,700 lives and displaced more than 1.2 million people.
The extensive destruction of entire villages in southern Lebanon has prompted comparisons to the devastation resulting from Israel’s military actions in Gaza.
