Deposits at the sub-branches of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC have climbed to nearly Tk12,000 crore, rising by Tk3,700 crore within a year, underscoring strong growth in grassroots banking operations.
The bank’s total deposits now stand at Tk183,000 crore, while remittance inflows reached Tk76,000 crore over the past year. Supported by sustained confidence among expatriates, Islami Bank has remained the country’s leading remittance collector for 18 consecutive years.
The lender currently serves 30 million customers, up by five million in a year, and operates the largest banking network in the country, with 400 branches, 271 sub-branches, 2,788 agent outlets and 3,040 ATM and CRM booths.
The figures were disclosed at the Sub-Branch Business Development Conference of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC, held on Saturday at Hotel InterContinental in the capital.
Managing Director Md Omar Faruk Khan attended the conference as chief guest. Additional Managing Director Engineer Mohammad Jamal Uddin Majumder presided over the event, while Additional Managing Director Md Altaf Hossain and M Kamal Uddin Jasim spoke as special guests. Deputy Managing Director Md Mahbub Alam delivered the welcome address.
Deputy Managing Directors Md Rafiqul Islam and K M Munirul Alam Al-Mamun were also present, alongside senior executives from the head office and in-charges of all 271 sub-branches.
In his address, Managing Director Md Omar Faruk Khan said Islami Bank’s contribution to the country’s economic development remained significant, adding that customer confidence had returned following changes in the banking landscape after the July uprising.
Despite multiple challenges in 2025, he said, the bank collected the highest volume of deposits in the sector and secured the largest remittance inflows, making a notable contribution to strengthening the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
He said the bank is working to build a strong, Shariah-compliant and technology-driven modern Islamic bank that promotes a culture of compliance and continues to play an important role in sustainable economic development.
Calling for greater use of technology across services, he urged bank officials to advance operations under the slogan “Innovation and digitisation driving transformation”.
