A delegation from the US-based International Republican Institute (IRI) held a meeting with leaders of Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) at a city hotel on Wednesday morning.

The meeting, which began at 11am, focused on a range of topics including the party’s political ideology, organisational structure, ongoing programmes, and preparations ahead of the upcoming national elections.

Discussions also covered candidate selection processes, women’s political participation, and youth engagement, said a press release.

The IRI delegation was informed about Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s ongoing efforts to reach constituency-based agreements, as well as the party’s active dialogue and negotiation processes with other political parties.

During the exchange, the IRI representatives commended the party’s political progress, as well as its organisational transparency and discipline.

The team includes, IAB International Affairs Secretary, Prof Dr Belel Nur Azizi, Former Ambassador and International Affairs Adviser Golam Mosih, International Affairs Secretary of Islami Jubo Andolan Assistant Prof Imtiaz Ahmed Sajal; Member Secretary, Sub-Committee on International Affairs Md Rajon Sikder.

Among the IRI delegation Christopher J Fussner, member, Board of Directors, IRI, Lisa Curtis, senior fellow and director, Indo-Pacific Security Programme at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS); Jessica Keegan, Technical Expert on Democratic Elections and Political Processes; Steve Sima, resident programme director, IRI; Jami Spikermann, program director at National Democratic Institute (NDI), John Fluharty, Political Party and Campaign Consultant, IRI; Darrin Bielicki, consultant, Amitav Ghosh, programme consultant were also present at the meeting.
