Iraqi officials have shut down the Shalamcheh border crossing with Iran after aerial attacks on the Iranian side of the boundary killed an Iraqi national, security sources reported on Saturday.
The strikes occurred within a passenger reception facility across the border, leaving at least five additional Iraqis with severe wounds, reports Reuters.
Law enforcement recovered the body of the deceased, while the injured – most of whom remain in critical condition – were moved to a hospital for treatment.
Following the incident, the Iraqi border authorities issued a statement declaring the crossing closed to both commercial trade and travellers.
