Iran has rejected an ultimatum from US President Donald Trump demanding a deal within 48 hours, amid escalating rhetoric between the two sides.
The US president warned that Tehran must reach an agreement within the stated timeframe or face severe consequences, reports The Guardian.
On Saturday, Trump wrote on social media: “Remember when I gave Iran ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT,” referring to an ultimatum issued on 26 March.
“Time is running out – 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them.”
In response, Iran’s central military command rejected the warning, with General Ali Abdollahi Aliabadi describing Trump’s threat as a “helpless, nervous, unbalanced and stupid action”.
Echoing Trump’s language, he cautioned that “the gates of hell will open for you”.
Trump later shared a video showing explosions lighting up the night sky, alongside a message that read: “Many of Iran’s Military Leaders … are terminated, along with much else, with this massive strike in Tehran,” without specifying when the incident occurred.
