BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday said that the Chief Adviser is committed to the public regarding the upcoming election, and if that promise is broken, Muhammad Yunus must bear the responsibility.
He emphasised that it’s not just the BNP, most political parties and the general public want the election to be held in February. The government has repeatedly assured that the election will take place on time. If that commitment is violated, the government will be held accountable.
He made these remarks at an event at the National Press Club on Wednesday.
The BNP leader also said that the National Consensus Commission deceived citizens by recommending the exclusion of dissenting notes and completely ignoring them in the draft of the July Charter implementation process.
He urged the commission and the interim government to revise the draft immediately, stating that disregarding dissenting opinions would undermine the purpose of national unity.
He noted that while parties had officially recorded their disagreements through notes of dissent, the commission had promised those would be included in the final document.
“Surprisingly, when the draft was published yesterday (Tuesday), none of those were there. The notes of dissent were completely ignored,” Fakhrul said.
“This cannot be called a united effort. Then why was the NCC formed in the first place? I would call this an act of deception against the people and the political parties.”
“The longer the election is delayed, the stronger the forces become that seek to destabilize Bangladesh,” Fakhrul added.
