Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon has stressed the need to bring digital platforms under proper rules and regulations.
The minister made the remarks on Sunday during a meeting with Turkish Ambassador to Bangladesh Ramis Sen at his ministry office in Dhaka.
He said it is important to establish a set of global regulations and discipline for digital platforms. He added that no single country can do this alone, and all countries must work together.
They discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in media, culture and knowledge-sharing between the two countries.
Swapon recalled his participation in the Strategic Communication Summit held in Turkey last March. He said the summit was a timely initiative and thanked the Turkish government for organising the event.
During the meeting, the Turkish envoy handed over a proposal aimed at enhancing cooperation between Turkish state television and radio and Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar.
Swapon also emphasised strengthening communication between media outlets of the two countries at the government level.
He also referred to his earlier bilateral meeting in Turkey with Professor Burhanettin Duran, Head of Communications of the Presidency of Turkey.
In that meeting, both sides agreed in principle to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on knowledge and information exchange between Bangladesh and Turkey.
