Veteran Indian actor Rajesh Sharma has been admitted to Manipal Hospital in Kolkata after suffering a serious insect bite while filming a Prabhas-starrer at Ramoji Film City.
According to a health update shared on Instagram by Sudipa Chatterjee, the actor was speaking with local technicians in an area surrounded by dense vegetation after completing his shoot when he was bitten by an insect. Believing it to be minor, he did not seek immediate medical attention, reports News 18.
About six hours later, Sharma developed severe pain in his right leg. His condition worsened during his flight to Kolkata, where he also developed a high fever. He was admitted to Manipal Hospital in Dhakuria the following day.
The update said Sharma continues to suffer from a high fever, breathlessness and a rapidly spreading infection in his right leg. The infection has extended from his toes to his knee, with large blisters forming across the affected area.
According to Dr Avijit Bhattacharya, it is too early to determine the full extent of the condition. The actor remains under close observation and is not yet out of danger.
Doctors are also monitoring the risk of a blood clot, which could become life-threatening if it reaches the lungs. The hospital is carrying out all necessary tests and treatment, with a further medical update expected after an official assessment.
The statement also thanked the media, the Bengal Motion Pictures Artists’ Forum, Sharma’s friends and well-wishers, and actor Prosenjit Chatterjee for their support during the actor’s recovery.
Rajesh Sharma is widely recognised for his work in Hindi and Bengali cinema, as well as television and web series, and has built a career spanning more than three decades.
