India stamped their authority in Test cricket against the West Indies, securing a comprehensive victory by an innings and 140 runs on Day 3 of the first Test. The Shubman Gill-led side did not need to chase a target, bowling out their opponents decisively to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
The match, which began on 2 October 2025 in Ahmedabad, saw India deliver near-perfect performances with both bat and ball. Despite losing the toss and being asked to field first, the home team reduced the West Indies to 90-5 by lunch on the opening day and eventually bowled them out for just 162.
India’s batting was equally dominant. KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, and vice-captain Ravindra Jadeja all scored centuries, while captain Shubman Gill added a half-century. Their efforts helped India build a massive first-innings lead of 286 runs, declaring at 448-5 at the start of Day 3.
In their second innings, West Indies again struggled against the home attack, reaching only 66-5 by lunch. Mohammed Siraj continued his lethal form, finishing with seven wickets across the two innings, and India wrapped up the innings at 146 to seal the victory.
India will now turn their focus to the second and final Test of the series, scheduled to begin on 10 October 2025 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
