Early morning rain and a thunderstorm swept through Dhaka, bringing relief from the heat but throwing daily life off track.

The downpour started around 6:45am, hitting officegoers, students and low-income workers the hardest.

Many people without umbrellas found themselves soaked and huddled in nearby shops and buildings. Even those with umbrellas ended up drenched.

Commuters struggled to reach work and school as public transport grew scarce, while rickshaw pullers and autorickshaw drivers hiked their fares unusually high.
