Improving the living standards of all marginalised communities, including the fishing community, is a top priority, and the current government is working to change the fate of the exploited and deprived, Chattogram-10 MP Sayeed Al Noman said on Friday.
Speaking as chief guest at an exchange meeting with the fishing community at Rani Rashmoni Ghat in Halishahar, the MP said the current fiscal year’s budget has clearly outlined the sustainable development framework for women, children, and marginalised communities.
“Within the next five years, there will be significant improvement in the overall living standards of the country’s fishing community, and the fishermen of Chattogram will be the first to benefit from it,” the Chattogram-10 MP said.
During the meeting, he listened attentively to the long-standing problems and demands of several hundred fishing families in the area.
Assuring the fishermen, the MP said, “Within the next year, the fishing community will begin to benefit from social safety net programmes. I am and will always be beside the backward, vulnerable, and suffering communities.”
Sayeed Al Noman also said that he had already raised the demand for establishing a government hospital and a cultural centre in Halishahar in parliament and has sent letters to the concerned ministries.
He further added, “There is no question of paying any kind of extortion to anyone. We have declared ‘zero tolerance’ against extortion and irregularities. No one will be shown any leniency, regardless of who they are.”
Local dignitaries and leaders of the fishing community were present at the event.
