On the eve of the Bangladesh Premier League, Noakhali Express head coach Khaled Mahmud has described Thursday’s training boycott by himself, assistant coach Talha Jubair, and the team as a misunderstanding rather than a major dispute with the franchise.
Speaking to reporters after the incident, Mahmud said the frustration stemmed from insufficient facilities and missing equipment during the session. “It was just a misunderstanding, maybe a heat of the moment,” he explained. “I did not get the equipment I needed for training and my mood was affected. I may have misbehaved a little, but it was nothing more than that.”
Mahmud also thanked the team owners for their support and said discussions had taken place between himself, the franchise, and the Bangladesh Cricket Board to resolve the issue. “Thanks to the team owners who stood by me. They have been talking to me and the BCB has also reached out,” he said.
When asked about ongoing tensions with certain staff members, Mahmud clarified that the incident was not personal. “It is an in-house matter. I received a call regarding missing equipment and I reacted in the moment. That was all,” he said. He added that the person involved was no longer part of the team’s operational group.
Mahmud stressed that the events would not affect the team’s performance in the tournament. “We have been training well in Dhaka for two days and the players are in good form. The team is ready. Inshallah, we will start on a high note,” he said.
He also praised the franchise for their professionalism and support. “I am really happy with our franchise. They have kept their commitments, ensured quality kits, and paid the players. They are very young, but passionate about cricket, and I believe this will help team bonding throughout the tournament,” Mahmud added.
Despite Thursday’s incident, Mahmud remains confident the team can start strongly and deliver entertaining cricket.
