Huawei has unveiled a set of ten technological megatrends that it believes will reshape the global economy, society and everyday life by 2035.
The company released its findings through two new white papers — the Intelligent World 2035 Report and the Global Digitalization and Intelligence Index 2025 Report — after two years of workshops and consultations with more than 100 experts and scholars worldwide.
Huawei Executive Director of the Board David Wang said human progress has always advanced alongside technological exploration.
“Generative AI is opening up possibilities that we couldn’t imagine before. So, we must continue looking towards the future and build new scientific visions and assumptions,” he said at the launch.
The report identifies Artificial General Intelligence as the biggest driver of transformation, predicting that the integration of intelligence with the physical world will lead towards what it describes as a technological singularity.
Alongside this, AI agents are expected to evolve from simple execution tools into decision-making partners, capable of reshaping industries ranging from healthcare to finance.
Human-AI programming will change the way software is built, with humans focusing on top-level designs and creative thinking while AI takes over repetitive coding tasks.
Human-computer interaction is expected to undergo a fundamental shift as graphical interfaces give way to natural language and multimodal systems.
These will allow people to interact with machines through voice, gestures and full sensory experiences. At the same time, mobile applications will no longer operate as isolated tools.
Instead, they will become interconnected service nodes, with AI agents linking multiple services in response to simple user commands.
Breakthroughs in modelling and critical technologies are likely to enable Level 4 autonomous vehicles, turning cars into “mobile third spaces” for work, leisure and social activity.
To support such advances, global computing capacity could expand 100,000-fold by 2035, driven by innovations in semiconductor materials, process techniques, architectures and new computing paradigms.
The report projects that AI will also drive unprecedented demand for storage, which could rise by 500 times from current levels, with more than 70 percent of global storage consumed by intelligent systems.
Connectivity is set to expand rapidly, with nine billion people linked to as many as 900 billion intelligent agents, transforming the mobile internet into what Huawei calls an “agentic internet.”
Energy remains a central challenge. By 2035, global data centres are expected to consume 1.5 trillion kilowatt hours of electricity annually.
Huawei suggests that only AI-powered optimisation of new energy systems can balance such demand, with wind and solar energy providing half of the world’s electricity mix by then.
The report extends beyond industry to everyday life, predicting that AI will help prevent more than 80 percent of chronic diseases through proactive monitoring and that intelligent robots will be found in more than 90 percent of Chinese households.
Complementing this long-term outlook, Huawei also released its updated Global Digitalization and Intelligence Index 2025 Report.
Developed with input from economists, social scientists and ICT specialists, the index expands on earlier benchmarks to give governments and businesses a clearer picture of how digital economies can harness AI for growth in the coming decade.
