Tawhid Hridoy and Tanzid Hasan Tamim produced timely centuries in the Dhaka Premier League on Tuesday as Bangladesh’s batters built momentum ahead of the upcoming ODI series against Australia.
The league resumed after the Eid break with eighth-round matches across Dhaka. At the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mohammedan Sporting Club faced Legends of Rupganj while Prime Bank Cricket Club took on Brothers Union.
Mohammedan captain Hridoy led from the front with a composed 101 from 106 balls against Rupganj. He converted his start into a century and helped his side post a commanding 339. The innings arrived at an important time for the Bangladesh batter, who continues to push his case ahead of national team selection.
Mohammedan also strengthened their squad before the match. Bangladesh fast bowlers Nahid Rana and Taskin Ahmed joined the club for the latter stages of the competition, adding further depth to the table-toppers.
At another venue, Tamim produced an even more aggressive display for Prime Bank. Opening the innings against Brothers Union, the left-hander smashed 119 from only 93 balls. He attacked from the start and dominated the bowling throughout his stay at the crease.
Bangladesh’s selectors have not yet announced the squad for the Australia series, but the form of Hridoy and Tamim offers encouraging signs. Both players have featured regularly in Bangladesh’s white-ball plans and their runs arrive just days before the national camp begins.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board will start its preparation camp on 4 June at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. The three-match ODI series against Australia begins on 9 June in Mirpur. The teams will then meet again on 11 and 14 June before shifting to Chattogram for a three-match T20I series on 17, 19 and 21 June.
With Australia due to arrive as one of the strongest limited-overs sides in world cricket, Bangladesh will welcome the sight of two top-order batters finding form at exactly the right moment.
