Human Mobile Devices (HMD), the Finnish company behind Nokia-branded mobile phones, has entered the Bangladeshi market with its own-brand devices, launching the locally assembled HMD 101 feature phone through technology distributor Salextra Limited.
The handset, HMD’s first branded product in Bangladesh, is being assembled at Salextra’s manufacturing facility and was unveiled at a launch event in Bogura on 7 July attended by distributors and retailers from northern Bangladesh.
The company is targeting users who continue to rely on feature phones for everyday communication, as well as professionals and travellers seeking a secondary device with longer battery life.
The HMD 101 features a 1,000mAh battery that the company says provides up to seven hours of talk time on a single charge. It also includes a dual LED torch, MP3 player, wireless FM radio, automatic call recording and expandable storage of up to 32GB via a microSD card.
“Bangladesh is a highly important market for us. Our goal is to deliver reliable technology to customers at affordable prices without compromising on quality,” said Vivek Khandelwal, general manager for Emerging Asia at HMD.
Kazi Alamin, business manager of HMD Bangladesh, said feature phones remain the primary communication device for millions of Bangladeshis.
“Launching the HMD 101 from northern Bangladesh is particularly significant for us. The phone combines Nokia’s renowned durability with HMD’s modern features,” he said.
Mohammed Asif, chief business officer, and Mamun Khan, head of sales at Salextra Limited, also attended the launch.
