Three writ petitions challenging the exclusion of nine cricketers from the players’ auction list for the 12th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League were summarily rejected by the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh on 30 November 2025. The cricketers, some of whom have represented the national team in the past, had sought directions to have their names reinstated for the upcoming auction.
The petitions were heard by a Division Bench comprising Mr Justice Sikder Mahmudur Razi and Mr Justice Raziuddin Ahmed. Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal, Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court, represented the petitioners, while the Bangladesh Cricket Board was represented by Barrister Mahin M Rahman, Advocate (Appellate Division), Supreme Court of Bangladesh.
The Bench, in its order, rejected the petitions, confirming that the auction of BPL 12 will proceed without the nine players.
A source close to the proceedings said, “The court has clearly upheld the authority of the Bangladesh Cricket Board to finalise the auction list, and the process will continue as planned.”
With the High Court’s decision, team owners and players now prepare for the auction, which remains a crucial part of squad building for the new season.
