Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakawat Hossain has urged China to increase its support for Bangladesh’s health sector, praising the ongoing cooperation between the two countries.

He requested assistance in providing laboratory testing kits and medical equipment, as well as accommodation for doctors and researchers at Bangladesh Medical University.

The minister also expressed hope that China would honour its commitment to help build a 1,000-bed hospital in the country.

State Minister for health MA Muhit, Health Secretary (Routine Duty) Khorshed Alam, and Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka, Li Shaopeng, were also present.

Ambassador Yao Wen assured that China would fully support the proposed 1,000-bed hospital project, whether it is a general or specialised facility.

He highlighted previous cooperation, including sending medical teams to treat victims of the Milestone School plane crash, supplying 82 pieces of equipment to the Robotic Rehabilitation Centre, and providing training for Bangladeshi medical staff in China.

He also expressed willingness to assist with housing for doctors and researchers pursuing higher studies.
State Minister MA Muhit added that establishing the 1,000-bed hospital in northern Bangladesh would be appropriate, given the region’s underdevelopment and limited healthcare infrastructure.v
