The High Court has summoned the Secretary of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs and the Director General of Jatiya Muktijoddha Council (Jamuka) over allegations of non-compliance with a verdict related to listing Advocate Md Shahzada of Mathbaria Upazila in Pirojpur as a freedom fighter under the law.
The order was issued on Thursday by a High Court bench comprising Justice Fahmida Kader and Justice Asif Hasan.
The court directed them to appear in person on 19 May.
Advocate Md Shahzada, the petitioner, confirmed the order to TIMES of Bangladesh.
He said the High Court in its verdict on 13 February 2023 directed authorities to include him in the freedom fighters’ gazette in accordance with the law. The judgment was received by the respondents on 25 March 2024.
As the verdict was not implemented, he filed a contempt of court case in 2025, after which the court issued a rule.
During the hearing of that rule, the court summoned former Liberation War Affairs Secretary Ishrat Chowdhury and Jamuka DG Shahina Khatun.
Deputy Attorney General Shafiqur Rahman represented the state in the hearing.
