The funeral prayer (janaza) of former state minister and BNP vice chairman Harun Al Rashid took place at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building on Friday.
The janaza was held at 10:30am, where the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, political leaders, party activists and a large number of well-wishers attended.
After the prayer, Major General Abul Hasnat Mohammad Tariq, placed flowers on behalf of the Prime Minister to pay respect to the late leader.
The Speaker and Deputy Speaker also offered floral tributes. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir later led tributes on behalf of the party.
Leaders and activists from different levels, along with people from various walks of life, also paid their respects.
Harun Al Rashid died on Thursday at 9pm while undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Specialised Hospital in Dhaka. He was 87 years old.
He served as a five-time Member of Parliament from Brahmanbaria-3 and also held the post of BNP district president of Brahmanbaria.
His family said he will be buried at the family graveyard in Brahmanbaria on Saturday after the Zohr prayer.
