Agriculture Minister Mohammad Aminur Rashid has said that farmers affected in the Haor region will receive financial assistance of at least Tk7,500 each.
He said the aid amount may increase depending on the level of damage.
He made the remarks on Monday morning after the third session of the second day of the Deputy Commissioners’ Conference at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka.
The minister said “Authorities are preparing a list of affected farmers in the Haor region following recent damage.”
He added “The support programme will continue for the next three months.”
He also said the government will provide additional assistance where required based on the extent of losses.
During the conference, DCs expressed concern over bumper potato production. They said farmers are not getting fair prices due to weak storage and marketing systems and stressed a long-term solution.
In response, the agriculture minister said “The government plans to expand potato markets and increase exports to address the crisis.”
The issue of sacrificial animal supply was also discussed at the meeting.
The minister said there is no shortage of sacrificial cattle in the country and there is no risk of a supply crisis in the market. He assured that the market remains stable.
Aminur also said there is no possibility of new cattle entering the country through borders in the coming days.
