Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained three people, including the wife and brother‑in‑law of Faisal Karim Masud, the prime suspect in shooting of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
Faisal’s wife Samia, his brother‑in‑law Shipu, and his friend Maria were detained in separate raids conducted in different areas of Dhaka and Narayanganj over the last 24 hours. However, Faisal alias Daud Khan has not been traced yet.
They were handed over to the police on Sunday, RAB said.
On Saturday, Abdul Hannan, the owner of the motorbike used in the shooting incident, was taken into custody. The court granted a three-day remand for him on Sunday. Additionally, two individuals were arrested from the Sherpur border area, while another two were apprehended in Savar.
Earlier, on Friday afternoon, Osman Hadi was shot while riding a moving rickshaw on Box Culvert Road in Dhaka’s Bijoynagar. He was fired upon from a passing motorcycle.
The bullet struck Hadi in the head. He was quickly rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Evercare Hospital for advanced treatment.
On Saturday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) circulated a photo of the man to the media, saying Faisal had been identified after analysing CCTV footage of the shooting on Osman Hadi. DMP also urged the public to provide any information about him.
In addition, Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury announced a reward of Tk5 million for information leading to the arrest of the person who shot Osman Hadi.
