The government expects the price of green chilis to reach a tolerable level within the next two to five days as import activities are scheduled to commence tomorrow.
Agriculture Minister Mohammed Amin Ur Rashid made the announcement today following an inspection of Shantinagar kitchen market in Dhaka.
He was accompanied by Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, State Minister for Food Md Abdul Bari, and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md Abdus Salam.
The agriculture minister informed media that the government has taken swift action to stabilise market, including reduction of existing taxes on green chili imports and granting of necessary import permissions.
During the visit, the ministers interacted with both buyers and sellers to assess the supply, pricing, and overall market conditions of essential commodities.
Khandaker Abdul Muktadir said the government would implement all necessary measures to keep the market accessible for consumers.
Addressing the media, he urged journalists to report objectively on market findings to increase public awareness, reduce confusion, and prevent unscrupulous traders from creating artificial crises or manipulating prices.
Prior to the market visit, the ministers attended a meeting at Commerce Ministry’s conference room to review the overall market situation and determine necessary actions regarding essential food and agricultural products.
Government officials expressed optimism that these strategic initiatives would ensure a steady supply of essential goods and provide much-needed relief to general consumers.
