An elderly woman was murdered and her teenage granddaughter abducted and subsequently killed in Ishwardi Upazila of Pabna on Friday night.
The deceased have been identified as Sufia Khatun, 65, wife of Najimuddin of Bhavanipur Uttarpara village in Dashuria Union, and her granddaughter, 15-year-old Jamila Akter.
According to family and local sources, residents were alerted by the sound of crying at around midnight on Friday. However, the crying stopped shortly after, and the neighbours returned to their homes.
On Saturday morning, Sufia Khatun’s blood-stained body was discovered in the courtyard of her residence.
Following a search for the missing granddaughter, Jamila’s stripped body was recovered from a nearby mustard field.
Md Mominuzzaman, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ishwardi Police Station, confirmed the recovery of the two bodies. He stated that police are investigating the motive behind the double homicide and are examining whether the teenager was raped before being murdered.
The bodies have been sent to the Pabna General Hospital morgue for autopsy as the investigation continues.
