GPH Ispat has formed a strategic partnership with the Research and Innovation Center for Science and Engineering (RISE) at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) to advance intellectual property (IP) management and drive innovation across academia and industry.
The partnership aims to protect and commercialize local innovations, supporting Bangladesh’s transition to a knowledge-based economy. Under the “MoA on Intellectual Property Management of BUET,” GPH Ispat will assist RISE in organizing workshops on patent filing, educating students, faculty, and researchers on IP rights and laws.
The initiative seeks to safeguard innovators’ work, create new income opportunities, and combat brain drain. GPH Ispat plans to expand this effort nationwide, engaging industries across sectors like light engineering, ICT, agriculture, and healthcare.
At the signing ceremony, BUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman said, “This initiative will help retain ownership of our innovations and research outcomes.” GPH Ispat’s Chairman and Managing Director Jahangir Alam added, “By preserving research outcomes through patents, we aim to connect the knowledge and expertise of our researchers for national development.”
BUET Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Md Abdul Hasib Chowdhury praised GPH Ispat’s Quantum Arc Furnace technology for its positive impact on energy consumption and called for further research in sectors like agriculture and education.
RISE Director Professor Md Mohammad Shariful Islam said, “This partnership is a commitment to linking research with industry, turning Bangladesh into a knowledge-driven economy.”
This collaboration marks a key step in building a smarter, innovative, and self-reliant Bangladesh through intellectual property management.
