The government has undertaken an initiative to prepare a white paper examining alleged irregularities and corruption in the education sector over a 16-year period, spanning from the 2008-09 to 2024-25 fiscal years.
However, no specific timeframe has been set for its publication due to the extensive scope of the investigation.
Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon disclosed the development in a written response during Thursday’s parliamentary session, replying to a question from Pabna-5 lawmaker Md. Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas.
In his query, the lawmaker asked whether the government planned to investigate alleged irregularities and corruption in the education sector during fascist regime and subsequently publish a white paper, including details of its expected timeline.
Responding to the question, the minister said the government has, in principle, attached significant importance to reviewing alleged irregularities, corruption, and governance issues in the education sector during the stated period.
He added that the ministry has already issued instructions to the concerned authorities to assess possible irregularities, corruption, and administrative shortcomings over the extended timeframe and prepare a comprehensive report.
Regarding the publication timeline, education minister said the white paper will be finalised after analysis of the findings from the investigation process.
However, he noted that the extent of the inquiry makes it difficult at this stage to determine a specific deadline.
He further assured that steps will be taken to prepare and publish the white paper in phases once the investigation and verification process is completed.
