The government is working tirelessly to ensure a safe, smooth, and comfortable journey for people ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, following directives from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam said on Saturday.
The minister made the remarks after inspecting key departure points in the capital, including Fulbaria BRTC bus counter, Gulistan bus stand, and Sayedabad bus terminal, to assess the preparedness for the upcoming holiday travel rush.
During the inspection, the minister interacted directly with passengers, inquiring about any problems or harassment they might be facing during their journey.
“We are working day and night with the goal that people can return home comfortably and celebrate Eid in a joyful atmosphere with their families,” he told journalists.
Sheikh Rabiul Alam assured that buses are currently operating according to schedule and fixed fares are being charged. Adequate fuel supply for public transport has been ensured to prevent any pressure of extra fares on passengers.
He said authorities are working round-the-clock to keep road management functional so passengers can reach their destinations safely and on time.
Limited iftar arrangements have been made for fasting passengers at various toll plazas on highways, while nearby hospitals have been kept on alert to provide quick first aid if anyone falls ill suddenly during the journey.
Mobile courts are being operated to prevent overcharging and passenger harassment, a measure that will continue throughout the travel period, Alam said.
Potential traffic congestion-prone areas have been identified beforehand with additional monitoring measures in place. Where road construction or repair work is ongoing, a specific number of lanes have been kept open to maintain normal traffic flow.
“We are trying our best, using our maximum capacity, to make this year’s Eid journey beautiful, comfortable, and safe. I hope there will be no deviation in this regard and people will be able to return home hassle-free,” the minister added.
The inspection was attended by State Minister Habibur Rashid, Pabna-5 MP Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary Dr Mohammad Ziaul Haque, along with leaders of transport owners’ and workers’ associations and senior government officials.
