In a rare move, the interim government has sent nine secretaries into forced retirement.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued separate notifications in this regard on Monday night.
The officials include Senior Secretaries Monjur Hossain and Mashiur Rahman, and Secretaries Shamsul Arefin, Mizanur Rahman, Azizur Rahman, Nurul Alam, Farid Uddin Ahmed, AKM Matiur Rahman, and Shafiul Azim.
The officials had long been placed on Officer on Special Duty (OSD) status within the Public Administration Ministry after the interim government took over in August 2024 following political upheaval.
The notification reads that the order issued in the public interest and will take immediate effect.
In June, the government sent five secretaries or equivalent-ranking officials and one Grade-1 officer into forced retirement.
Those officials include Kazi Enamul Hasan, director general of the Bangladesh Employees Welfare Board; Sukesh Kumar Sarker, director general secretary of the National Academy for Planning and Development; Muhammad Ibrahim, chairman secretary of the Land Appeal Board; Shahid Ullah, director of the National Academy for Development Administration; and Mohammad Salah Uddin, secretary on Officer on Special Duty (OSD) status.
Lipika Bhadra, chairman of the Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation, was also sent into forced retirement.
