The government has formed district-level committees to facilitate the withdrawal of cases filed for political harassment.
The Ministry of Home Affairs recently issued a notification outlining the formation, jurisdiction and working procedures of the committees.
Under the notification, the district magistrate of the respective district will chair the committee.
The superintendent of police and the public prosecutor will serve as members, while the additional district magistrate will act as member-secretary.
In metropolitan areas, the committee will include a deputy commissioner of police and a metropolitan public prosecutor.
The notification said an accused person or an immediate family member may apply to the district magistrate on behalf of all the accused in a case.
Immediate family members include parents, spouses, siblings and children.
