Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus today said that the government is closely monitoring the status and safety of individuals participating in the ‘Global Sumud Flotilla’ for Gaza, including renowned photographer and human rights activist Shahidul Alam.
In a statement the Chief Adviser emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of all participants in the mission. “We are monitoring the situation closely, particularly with respect to Shahidul Alam, who has always shown immense courage in the face of adversity,” he said, reports BSS.
Muhammad Yunus highlighted Alam’s previous struggle for justice, recalling his imprisonment for 107 days in 2018 under the Hasina government. “Shahidul’s determination during his incarceration is a testament to his unwavering resolve. He remains a powerful symbol of Bangladesh’s indomitable spirit,” Yunus added.
The Chief Adviser also reiterated his remarks made before the United Nations General Assembly last month, condemning the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. “The indifference to human suffering is undermining the progress humanity has fought for over decades,” Yunus said.
“Nowhere is this more evident than in Gaza, where children are dying from hunger, civilians are being indiscriminately killed, and entire neighborhoods—including hospitals and schools—are being erased from the map.”
“We stand with Shahidul Alam and with Gaza, now and forever,” Yunus concluded.
