A special golf training programme has started in Dhaka. It aims to improve the skills of local coaches.
World-famous Slovenian coach Uroš Gregorič arrived in Bangladesh on Wednesday. He took sessions working with local coaches and top players.
The four-day course is taking place at the Bangladesh Golf Academy in Army Golf Club. It is organised by the Bangladesh Golf Federation with support from the Bangladesh Olympic Association.
Through the programme, the organisers want to improve local coaches. They believe better coaches will produce better golfers.
Top golfer of the country Siddikur Rahman is also part of the programme. Many local coaches are taking part too. They are learning new methods and ideas.
At the opening event, federation vice president Maj Gen (Retd.) Masud Razzaq was present. Other officials also joined the event, including General Secretary Brig Gen (Retd.) Sayeed Siddiki, Joint Secretary Brig Gen Sajjad Hossain, Bangladesh Olympic Association Director General Brig Gen (Retd.) A B M Shefaul Kabir, National Sports Council Director Md. Aminul Ahsan, and Bangladesh Golf Academy Director Lt Col Tojammel Haque.
Gregorič said, “I have conducted such training in many countries. It is very important. It will improve the skills of coaches. I am very happy to be a trainer in such a programme in Bangladesh.”
Masud Razzaq said, “We are organising such a programme for the first time in Bangladesh. Golf needs both physical and mental skills. This training will help coaches teach better. It is a very effective step for our golf.”
Sayeed Siddiki said, “If we want to improve golf in the country, we must first improve our coaches. They are the ones who teach. I believe this training will make our local coaches more skilled. The more skilled they are, the better golfers we will get.”
Siddikur Rahman said, “I am not a coach, but I think such training is needed. There is no end to learning. I want to keep playing golf as long as I can. I believe I will learn a lot from this course.”
National team coach Nadim Hossain said, “We are very lucky to learn from such a big trainer. This four-day training will improve our skills. We hope to learn many new things that will help us develop new golfers.”
On the first day, the coach explained basic ideas and skills. He showed both theory and practice. The sessions ran from morning to evening.
The next session will focus on putting and chipping.
