Garment workers blocked a road at the Mirpur 10 intersection in the capital on Thursday morning, demanding an increase in wages.
The workers took position on the road around 10am.
Vehicular movement on the road came to a halt, causing severe traffic congestion in the area.
Several hundred workers from a number of garment factories started demonstrating, demanding that the minimum monthly wage be raised to Tk 30,000.
Hasan Md Naser Rikabdar, deputy commissioner (Mirpur Division) of police, confirmed the development.
Police are trying to persuade the workers to withdraw the blockade and restore traffic movement.
