Two fuel-laden ships carrying octane and furnace oil have arrived at Chattogram Port, as authorities move to stabilise supply amid concerns over shortages, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) said in a press release.
Around 25,000 metric tonnes of furnace oil supplied by PT Bumi Siak Pusako reached the Dolphin Oil Jetty on Thursday aboard the vessel Eastern Quince after waiting at the outer anchorage since 8 April.
A second vessel, MT Central Star, carrying about 26,000 metric tonnes of refined octane from Malaysia, has arrived at the outer anchorage and was scheduled to berth at the Dolphin Jetty, its local agent Pride Shipping Lines said.
Port authorities are prioritising fuel vessels for berthing to ensure uninterrupted energy supply.
Chattogram Port Authority Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim said several ships have discharged fuel in recent days as part of efforts to ease supply pressure.
More shipments are expected in the coming days. The port’s Marine Department said three liquefied natural gas carriers and two liquefied petroleum gas vessels are due to arrive between 10 April and 15 April from Malaysia, the United States and Australia.
The incoming cargoes are expected to support energy supply as the country faces pressure on fuel availability.
