At least four people were killed and three others injured when an oil tanker truck and a CNG-run autorickshaw collided head-on in Sylhet’s Osmaninagar upazila on Saturday.
The identities of the deceased and injured could not be confirmed immediately.
The accident occurred around noon in the Brahmangram area of the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway, said Anisur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sherpur Highway Police Station.
Police said the Padma Oil Company tanker was travelling towards Dhaka from Sylhet when it collided with the autorickshaw coming from the opposite direction.
The impact left the autorickshaw mangled and injured all seven people travelling in it.
Locals rescued the injured and took them to Osmaninagar Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared four dead.
Three of the deceased were passengers of the autorickshaw, police said.
The accident occurred less than two weeks after another deadly crash on the same highway.
On 7 August, nine people were killed when buses operated by Unique Paribahan and Bengal Paribahan collided in Osmaninagar.
The latest accident has again raised concerns over road safety on the busy Dhaka-Sylhet Highway, where serious crashes have claimed numerous lives in recent weeks.
