Police arrested four suspects in connection with the abduction of a schoolboy, the son of a Secretariat employee, during coordinated raids across the capital late Wednesday night.
The detainees are Tanvir Ahmed alias Fahim, 22; Iffat Yamin Likhon, 23; Hasan Al Banna alias Hasan, 20; and Mostaki Rahman, 21.
Ramna Division Deputy Commissioner Masud Alam revealed the information at a press conference held at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Media Centre on Thursday.
Police said one more suspect remains at large, and operations to apprehend him are ongoing.
The boy, son of Khandakar Shamim Ahmed, was abducted on Tuesday, after leaving school.
His father immediately informed Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Secretariat, who instructed the police to take swift action.
Led by Ramna Division Deputy Commissioner Masud Alam, police rescued the boy from an under-construction building in Khilgaon. The kidnappers had reportedly demanded a ransom of Tk50,000.
DC Masud Alam said the operation was carried out despite having no prior information on the suspects’ location.
“The abductors left the child on the building’s ground floor and fled.Using CCTV footage and technological resources, we identified a well-organised gang of around 12 members. Four have been arrested, and the remaining will also face justice,” he added.
Police said the gang lured victims before abducting them and assured that all involved individuals would be brought to justice.
