Chattogram District Police have arrested four alleged criminals, including two associates of listed criminal Raihan, in separate raids in Chattogram and Dhaka.
Police also recovered a foreign-made pistol, a magazine and two rounds of 7.65mm ammunition based on information obtained from the suspects.
Superintendent of Police Md Masud Alam disclosed the details at a press briefing at his office on Monday.
According to police, Md Didar Alam, 30, and Md Afsar Mia, 30, were arrested at a special security checkpoint in the Shitalpur area of Sitakunda on Sunday night.
Police said both are accused in the murder case of Jubo Dal leader Maksudul Huq Chowdhury, who was killed in the Pahartali area of Chattogram city on 13 June.
During preliminary interrogation, the two allegedly admitted to long-standing involvement in extortion, criminal activities and establishing dominance in the Rauzan and Rangunia areas, police said.
Police records show that Didar faces 10 criminal cases, including murder and arms charges, while Afsar is accused in six cases.
Acting on information provided by the suspects, police later recovered the concealed firearm and ammunition during a raid in the Jurulkul area of Rauzan Union.
In a separate operation, police arrested Md Didarul Alam, the main accused in the Nurul Azim murder case, from Keraniganj in Dhaka.
Masud described Didarul as a contract killer, alleging that he had carried out murders for payments ranging from Tk10,000 to Tk15,000.
Police said Didarul faces 13 criminal cases and six outstanding arrest warrants. He had been on the run since the hacking death of Nurul Azim in the Khalifapara area of Hathazari on 10 July.
Police also arrested another listed criminal, Borhan, from the Jorarganj Police Station area.
The SP said special drives would continue to curb crime and ensure public safety across the district.
Legal proceedings are under way to file fresh cases and seek remand for the arrestees.
