A former Thai lawmaker was arrested on Monday after allegedly shooting a local government official and later calling a YouTube programme to disclose the incident.
Chalong Reawraeng, a former MP from Nonthaburi province, allegedly shot Thongchai Yenprasert, president of the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organisation, reports BBC.
Thongchai and his driver, who was also shot, were taken to hospital. Several reports described their condition as “seriously injured”.
Police arrested Chalong following the shooting.
The incident occurred only days after another deadly shooting in Nonthaburi, where a teenage boy killed seven people at his home and school before taking his own life.
The incident was Thailand’s deadliest mass shooting since 2022. Authorities have found no apparent connection between the two attacks.
