Locals in Lalmonirhat chased and intercepted a luxury vehicle worth nearly Tk one crore, reportedly owned by former State Minister for Primary and Mass Education and lawmaker from Lalmonirhat-1 (Hatibandha-Patgram), Motahar Hossain.
The incident occurred on Monday morning, when police confiscated the vehicle from the Kakina area of Kaliganj upazila. The car’s driver, Kajol Chandra Roy, and his assistant, Aziz, were taken into police custody for questioning.
According to local sources, the vehicle was seen early in the morning leaving a house near the Dolapara border area in Hatibandha. Suspecting it was being used to transport Eid goods to Dhaka for the former MP’s son, locals gave chase. After a dramatic 40-kilometre pursuit, they managed to stop the vehicle near the Kakina petrol station in Kaliganj.
Upon receiving the information, police promptly arrived at the scene, seized the vehicle, and detained the two men inside.
Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Selim Malik told reporters, “Early Monday morning, we were informed that a luxury car from the Dolapara border area in Hatibandha had been intercepted by locals in Kakina. Our team rushed to the spot, seized the vehicle, and brought the driver and his assistant in for questioning.”
Preliminary investigation confirmed that the car belongs to former MP Motahar Hossain.
