Dhaka North City Corporation’s former reserved seat councillor and Awami League women’s front leader Hazera Khatun Nargis has been arrested by Gulshan police.
She was picked up on Tuesday night from the Gulshan area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner of Media Talebur Rahman confirmed the arrest.
He said a special team from Gulshan police station conducted the operation at her residence in Shahjadpur’s Azmeri neighbourhood and later brought her to the station. Legal proceedings are under way against her, he added.
Police, however, did not immediately disclose the charges on which she was detained.
Hazera Khatun was elected councillor unopposed in 2024 from the reserved seat covering wards 01, 17 and 18 of Dhaka North City Corporation. She has also held various posts in the Mohila Awami League over the years.
