A group of five to six miscreants hacked and injured a food controller in Khulna city on Sunday evening.
The victim, Anindya Kumar Das, is the Batiaghata Upazila Food Controller.
The attack took place in front of Akbar Store in the city’s Farajipara area when he was leaving the shop after shopping.
According to locals, the attackers surrounded Anindya, beat him and then stabbed him with a knife.
They fled after locals rushed to the scene hearing his screams.
Anindya was initially taken to Khulna City Medical College Hospital for primary treatment and later shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital for advanced care.
The motive for the attack was not immediately known.
Khulna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-charge Md Shafiqul Islam said police were initially unaware of the incident but sent a team to the scene after receiving information.
He said legal action would be taken and the attackers identified once a formal complaint is lodged.
In a similar incident in 2025, food inspector Susanta Kumar Majumder was abducted from Khulna’s Ghat area by individuals posing as police officers. He was later rescued.
